Documents required for marriage registration,Marriange certificate in India. Formalities involved


You need the below documents for getting marriage certificate in India

  • Marriage Invitation card
  • 2 Photos of Bride and Groom in marriage dress taken during marriage ritual which clearly show they are taking part in marriage cermony.
  • Documents which serve as Proof of Age
    Preferably 10th class marks memo which has your photo and also your date of Birth on it.
  • Address proof of current residing address which should be on Bride or Grooms name.
    • Some of the accepted documents are Passport,Drivers Lisence, Voter ID card, GAS card, Eletricity Bill on the name of the applicant. Atleast one of the applicant should have government issue Residence proof if not booth the applicants.
And 3 witnesses to certify your marriage.

You should go to the sub registrar office of the locality for which you have address proof. They differ based on your plot number/Door number of your address proof.

You can get the marriage certificate in any area by submitting the following docs under one condition
Either bride or bride groom's residence certificate must be there no matter where your marriage done
1.Residence Certificate(Voter Card / Passport / Ration Car / Driving License / Bank Passbook
/ Lease Deed / Rent Deed) of Marrying Persons.)
2.Letter from Notary ( affidavit )
3.Age certificate i.e like 10th Certificates for both Bride and bridegroom
4.certificate from Kalyana mandapam/Temple/Arya samajam according to the marrriage place
5.Photos
a.both bride and bridegroom with exchange flo wers(Pula Dandalu tho)
b.Jeelakarra bellam tho
c.Photos with Parents
6.Sakshi santakalu (Better if either bride or bridegroom's parents present)
a.Bride's side Two members
b.Bridegroom 's side Two members
7.Marriage invitation card if available.
8.Identity Card
IMPORTANT : All documents needs to be attested by Gazetted Officer.
